Bored kitten

IMG_9802 IMG_9803 Sting

When Riley is bored, she sometimes entertains herself by hanging her forelegs off the cat post and pulling toys out of the basket one at a time. I have yet to get a video of her doing this but I keep trying!

Here’s my new letter opener. It’s Bilbo’s sword,  “Sting”, from “The Hobbit”. When I first got on the internet in the early 1990′s, I joined a fan group for the computer game series “Ultima” and we all had hyphenated dragon names. Mine was Sting-Dragon. I’ve kept it (without the hyphen) as my nickname online partly because I like it and partly because it’s never taken. Tolkein’s works are still some of the few I can read over and over again. I’m currently listening to an audio adaptation of Lord of the Rings, complete with singing.

Happy New Year!

All three girls sharing the couch has to be an auspicious omen for the new year.

Little nippers

I don’t generally do a huge amount of Christmas knitting but I made a couple of these nip nuggets for a friend. There’ll be a few more for my own girls pretty soon as they knit up very quickly and easily. I stuffed mine with a wad of wool with catnip in the center.

Inspired by Kittens.

I think I might have failed a catsitting interview this past weekend, in what might be the lowest of new lows.

How does one fail a catsitting interview? On the other hand, how does one ace a catsitting interview?

Either way, I’ve missed being around them (cats) a whole lot. You might know that I am the owner of five imaginary kittens:

  1. Poutine (the original)
  2. Mirepoix (her sister)
  3. Chamomile (sweet darling, little apple chamai, on the ground)
  4. Stroganoff (you know, you’d better not mess with Stroganoff)
  5. Mushroom Pizza (bless her heart, she just can’t help it)

Nothing really like curling up with a good book and an imaginary kitten, you know?

But until they become real, I will content myself with Anabela’s gorgeous printed calendar, which, really, have you ever seen anything more beautiful? I’m excited for the new year for all sorts of reasons.

Block of the Month

I got home just in the nick of time to turn in my June star block and get the new pattern for July. Riley was oh so helpful in the sewing room.

I tawt I taw a puddy tat!

017

This dapper fellow is the neighborhood stray. I think he was hopping one of the silly goldfinches would just fall into his mouth. He hangs about in the backyard quite a bit but is very shy of people.
