Yarned by You

Who wants to see some beautiful knits today? You do! Well, you’re in luck because I’ve got another edition of Yarned by You! A reminder that (if you’re on Ravelry) you can click through the images to get to the project page and learn more, including where to get the pattern.

This Wild Vanilla vest never looked so good in Sabine (09 Wisteria). Mollysbottomknits did a fantastic job! I love the cabled pulling everything together at the top!

Mollysbottoms' wild vanilla

This Gable (designed by Caroline Fryar) was knit in Findley Dappled (Woodland) by JulieRoseSews. I love how well this pattern works with a variegated yarn! And it’s a free pattern! So if you want to make your own version, you can find it (and the rest of the free Findley patterns) on the Findley Free Pattern page.

Okay, this one feels a little bit like cheating because it was designed by Ann, which works for KFI (our distributor). So maybe it doesn’t quite feel like YOU made it. But Ann actually reads the blog alongside everyone else (Hi Ann!), so I think it counts anyway. And besides, she made it a free pattern, so that’s gotta count for something, right? It’s the Chadwick Argyle Cowl! She knit it using Black Magic (#10), Dawn (#3), and Syrah (#4).

This Cora (again designed by Caroline Fryar) has been lingering my favorites for awhile now, so I’m glad that I get to share it with the rest of you! She knit it just as the pattern states, using Herriot 04 Walnut as the main color.

tonymsrad made this Snowball Beanie to go with the Annie Boot Cuff which she also made. She used Yearling in 01 Snowball.

I’m slightly enamored of the Whisper Wrap. It’s definitely in my to-knit list. In fact, I’ve shown off this wrap in Findley before! I just love it! This one is made by Regina-K using Rappahanock. The drape! It just gets me every time!

Yarned by You: It’s really really Spring!

Spring has really come to the Northeast. We’re just past the disgusting pollen-laden season and right now everything is so green and beautiful and bright and sunny and happy. (Well yesterday and today have looked a bit cool and stormy, but that’s just nature reminding me that it’s spring and not summer!) So I toured through my file of favorites to see what people are making in our spring yarns!

This Runa in Sabine (12 Sirius) was made by kkuncl. She writes that it used some new techniques that she wanted to try. I love to learn new things while knitting, don’t you?

MelissaNCgirl knit this gorgeous Shirley Sweater in Findley (Poppy) super fast! I love the tie at the front and the fun lace details.

SaraLeila knit this as a chemo cap for the Hope Lodge. I love the idea of Moonshine (Blackberry) giving someone a bit of comfort through their difficult journey. This pattern is called Molly.

SaraLeila's Molly

redsocksrules (hm… can you guess where she’s from?) made good use of Yearling (10 Leafy) by knitting Short Sands. I’m really digging oversized lace like this!

redsocksrules's Short Sands

Also in Yearling (see note above about digging oversized lace!), is this lovely Storm Fir Shawl, knit by sageb in Blue Blue Sky. Two balls of yarn, one day, and BAM! lace shawl!

This lovey sweater knit in Sabine (Posy), is reverisible. Some people wear it with the V in the back, and some with the V in the front! mclaugan shows the Joule pullover with the V in the front but added a little extra detail to the other side.

A reminder that clicking on the picture will take you directly to the knitter’s project page where you can learn more about their garments!

Introducing: Yearling 2013

When we saw Janine Le Cras’s designs for the 2013 collection of Yearling (60% merino wool and 40% cotton bulky yarn), we were thrilled that they were designed with positive ease so you can determine the size you’d like to knit based on the fit you’d like. Some of these designs are unisex so you could knit a sweater for your husband and then steal it out of his wardrobe when you want a loose-fitting sweater!

For this photo shoot we focused on sporty themes, as the Packer Pullover is designed around a traditional Cricket sweater. (When they played Cricket on Downton I spent much of the scene checking out the sweater to see Janine’s design inspiration!) I can easily imagine a fun Sunday spent with a bunch of your friends while you giggle about how you hold a badminton racquet and if there are rules about where croquet wickets can be placed… because that’s how we spent the last full-day of our photo shoot!

Yarned by You: Yearning for Spring

It is pouring freezing rain here in Massachusetts. It is absolutely horrid out. In miserable weather like this there is nothing better to do than to snuggle up with some warm wool and wait for Spring to start. So, shall we?

ShayneDKnits held Herriot double to make this Jumper with Hood. She looks absolutely adorable in it!

ShayneDKnits Jumper with Hood

This lovely sweater was made by dkmerola knit Desire using Willa in Aquarium. This color makes me long for Spring!

dkmrola's Desire

I know I’ve featured the Featherweight Cardigan before, but I just can’t get enough of it in Findley! HeatherBrum knit this one in Crocodile.

HeatherBurm's Featherweight Cardigan

This Hilton Field Cowl was knit by AnxiousKnitter by using three different shades of Sabine. I love how it’s reversible!

The many undyed shades of Herriot are perfect colorwork like this Vera Marguerite Tam as designed by Pam Wynne for the Fall 2012 yarn line. knittingceleste did a wonderful job knitting this one. She’s making the matching cowl!

This Big Tile Pullover was knit by tentenknits using Yearling. I love the pop of color in the yoke (and the hint of baby bump in this picture!)

Yarned by You: Designed by You

Since I’ve been admiring all the new designs for the Spring 2013 yarn lines and I can’t show you any of those, I thought that I’d show you some patterns designed for JMF yarn not commissioned by JMF. These are all patterns that you can download right away and get knitting!

Samantha Capelet was designed by Beth Ann Beck in Yearling colorway Kiwi. It looks like the perfect thing to throw on top of your bathing suit for a little more coverage while you dry.

Learning Curve is a shawl designed by Adrienne Ku for a lace knitting class in Findley in Malachite. If you’re feeling like expanding your lace skills, check out this shawl! (Also, Happy Birthday, Adrienne!)

Narramissic Dress was designed by Jennilee Sirios in Sabine 06 Sea Glass. This would be perfect for a little girl that loves to twirl!

Infinity Scarf by Nancy Hopf  is a free pattern that was designed in Findley Dappled 105 Clear Blue Sky. I think the beauty of this yarn would make up for the miles of stockinette. It would be perfect for knitting on the plane, which I just did with Findley, although not with this pattern!

Crossing Faults by Beatrix Haggard-Lofton is another Yearling caplet, which has a completely different look the other one. This one is knit in Blue Blue Sky.

Rebeca’s Raglan Sweater was designed by Melina Martin Gingras in Sabine Sirius and Wisteria. I love how it surprises you with just a bit of lace at the hips!

Finally, Marissa’s Shawl was designed in Findley Fresco by Helen Rose. On the Ravelry page she includes a handy list of skills needed to work the lace, so if you’re feeling like you might not have the chops to knit it, check it out and you might be surprised!

Who else is designing something with JMF yarns?

You can find the JMF yarns in a LYS near you by clicking here then clicking “find a store,” inputting your zip code and selecting Juniper Moon Farm as the yarn brand.

Yarned by You: Yearling Gallery

This week I wanted to show off Yearling, JMF’s bulky weight 60% merino 40% cotton blend created for the Spring  Summer 2012 line. Talented repeat designer Pam Wynne created 12 lovely patterns that were mostly kid-centric.

sparker created this girly Charlie by using Firetruck, Leafy, & Bashful. Pam Wynne designed this pattern, as well as the companion patterns Marci & Lucy which give you the same look for matching photos! (or if your tyke just adores this sweater you could make her a matching tunic as she ages. Ya know, if you’re not into matching Christmas pictures or something.)

These Lamb Shoes (in recommended colorway Snowball) by laurelcat are also in the Yearling booklet. And they are another baby to adult pattern, as there are matching adult slippers! I just adore the sleepy lamby faces.

Pam Wynne outdid herself with all the wonderful patterns for little ones made in Yearling, I wanted to show off how great Yearling looks on adults, too!

thewonderfulone made this Sunkist for her mom in Bashful. I love the tag sewn in; such a nice detail and great for care instructions. I can easily see me slipping into this cozy cardi!

katertater knit this Winkle-colored Anthropologie-Inspired Capelet within two days! I made one for my little sister early on in my knitting career and it took me WAY longer. (In fact, I think I finished it on the plan returning from a farm trip!)

Even though I wanted to show you adult patterns, I couldn’t resist showing you  maryvooigt’s Immie Baby Blanket in Cloudy. Look how lovely the lace blocks out!

Mollinn striped Firetruck and Cloudy to make her Oatmeal Pullover. I love the bright stripe with the gray neutral for added pop.

This Dorfinger Tee was made by mstgarden in Kiwi. Another lace pattern! I wouldn’t think of using Yearling for lace, but it looks like it’s working out well!

And finally, another Pam Wynne-designed project to round out the makings. This time it’s the title pattern Yearling! Again in Snowball, MNKnitter did a lovely job!

I don’t know if there’s enough time to knit much else for Christmas (but that’s not going to stop me from trying), but if there’s a way to meet your knitting goals it’s with a Bulky weight yarn like Yearling!

As always, click on the picture to be taken to the project page for more pictures as well as a link to the pattern.

You can find Yearling in a LYS near you by clicking here then clicking “find a store,” inputting your zip code and selecting Juniper Moon Farm as the yarn brand.

Yarned by You: Crochet Gallery

One thing that’s been missing so far in these Yarned by You posts is crochet. I’ve been saving up my very favorite ones for a crochet-celebration post! There were many projects to chose from and you’ll be sure to see more in the future. But enough talk. Let’s look at the pretties!

A father’s day present, doodlemuse stitched up this Crochet Ribbed Scarf in Yearling. My favorite tag is “oh-please-work.” Don’t we all have projects like that??

sparker crocheted this absolutely adorable Sleepy owl Hat with Yearling for Wildfibers in Mount Vernon, Washington.

Having only crocheted for a year, frogleg33 tackeled Gathering Leaves in Findley’s Fresca for a friend to use as a wedding shawl!

ihoot whipped up this Long Tailed Baby Elf Hat out of Sabine in colorways Sirius and Sea Glass.

Adding just a touchy of lacy crochet with Findley (colorway Bittersweet) to a neckline really perks up Laura Nelkin’s dress! She wrote a blog post on it here.

Lmstuart made this gorgeous Lace Canopy Cardi Wrap. It reminds me so much of Stippled Ink designed by Caroline Fryar for Findley Dappled; both are in Unical.

Who doesn’t love a handcrocheted basket to keep one’s eggs in? Spaz modified a Round Cushion pattern using Chadwick in Hannah. I bet those eggs feel very snuggled!

It seems that LuckyPenny didn’t have her luck with her after crocheting this gorgeous dress in Sabine based on Persimmon Pullover by Doris Chan (who does crochet at its finest!). I was bummed to read that she didn’t even get a chance to wear it before it was lost. I suppose it’s too much to hope that it will turn up in the darndest place (like under the TV cabinet)?

Pick up a hook and some JMF yarn and get hooking! I want to see what fabulous things you can come up with!

Good Things to Come

This weekend marked the beginning of a lot of work for me and my family.  I signed the lease to our retail space, started Sock Madness (a fun sock knitting competition on Ravelry.com), started planning the first knit along, and met with another yarn rep.
The future home of Midwest Yarn!

The retail space should be opening to the public in June as long as there are no hiccups along the way.  Currently, there's a lovely little art boutique there.

I've started collecting furniture and other pieces for the shop, which will have a modern day country cottage/rustic feel to it.  I plan on having artwork and other vintage/antique items on display to decorate the store.

So why am I doing Sock Madness in the middle of this busy time for Midwest Yarn?  I promised myself last year that I'd join the competition, especially since I'd missed last year's by a few days.  It's a great way to learn new knitting skills and have fun talking to over 100 other people knitting the exact thing you are.  I learned Judy's Magic Cast On and Jenny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off both of which were easy techniques to pick up.  I'm in the midst of round 1, so wish me luck!

I'll be hosting our first knit along on Ravelry.com.  This will start as soon as there is enough interest in the knit along.  In fact, I'm starting on my pattern early because I couldn't resist the piles of silky soft Findley Dappled yarn.  I'm knitting the All the Stops Dress, featured on the cover of Juniper Moon Farm's Findley Dappled booklet that was just released.

To get ready, stop by Midwest Yarn's website and pick up the yarn and pattern books for a Juniper Moon Farm project.  I have Findley Dappled and Sabine yarn/booklets in stock for the projects and can order more if there are enough people interested.  Special orders for Yearling and Yearling Booklets can be made too.

You can use the Grand Opening coupon code WELCOME20 for 20% off yarn, the booklets, and other supplies you'll need for the knit along.  Then follow here or on Midwest Yarn's Ravelry.com group (Friends of Midwest Yarn).  Don't forget to email me if you have questions or need help with your project.

Coming soon...I just ordered fingering weight/sock yarn in 13 colorways from Claudia's Hand Painted Yarns.  They'll be available for purchase as soon as we get them in!
