Weekly Photo Challenge: Opposites…

In the photo this week, show how opposites can tell a story about people, places, or objects.

I chose the The National Monument to the Forefathers — also known as the Pilgrim Monument in Plymouth, MA. The monument is topped by a 36-foot-tall statue of Faith, who alone weighs 180 tons. Surrounding statues include Liberty, Peace, Tyranny, Education, Wisdom, Youth, Law, Mercy, Justice, and Morality.

Here is the statue and four opposite sides… Education, Morality, Liberty, Law.

Weekly Challenge: Partners…

Prompt: This week, share an image of partners. A pair, a trio, a sextet; people, buildings, plants — whatever you choose to shoot, give us subjects that are in tune with one another.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I dubbed these trees in a nearby park the ‘sweetheart trees.’ They had definitely grown together and become partners.
Months later after a harsh winter we found them like this..
I was truly saddened by this but at least they had fallen together, partners until the end.
Weekly Challenge: Pure…
Find beauty in the mundane, and purity in the midst of our chaotic, over-connected world. For this week’s challenge, share a photo of something pure — it can be a person, an object, or a moment. “Pure” can convey wholesomeness, something undiluted, or simplicity.
Face …
The prompt this week is to show the picture of a face, or in this case, faces.  I purchased this stone sculpture from a Native American artist on Martha’s Vineyard a few years ago.
I asked him how he knows what to sculpt and he told me that he has to get to know the stone first… let it speak to him and tell him what it is meant to be…  only then does he begin the process of letting the spirit emerge from the stone.
This particular stone has two faces.
Something I find interesting about these sculptures is that when you’re holding them they’re both cool and warm. Perhaps it’s the spirit from within.
Weekly Challenge: Earth …
The prompt is:  between the global Earth Day celebration, and Mother’s Day in the United States, share your vision of our glorious Mother Earth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

These are the Gay Head clay cliffs in the town of Aquinnah on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. The clay cliffs are ecologically protected, and it is forbidden to climb the cliffs or touch the clay.

Weekly Challenge: Abstract …

Weekly prompt:  Point your camera at something familiar and turn it into something else. Whether it’s a wall in your house, a friend’s arm, or a billboard seen from afar, we may or may not recognize what it actually is. But we’ll certainly discover something else about it in the process.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My choice for abstract are views through my rainy windshield. The first one is of trees along the side of a street.  The second one is the view of a harbor.
