Tarragon laceweight

IMG_7592

Yesterday I had the pleasure of a visitor who spins and we spend many hours chatting and spinning. I managed to finish a skein of cormo/romney laceweight, 650 yards.

Plied

I’ve been steadily plying yarn this week . Pictured above is the skein from the Romney rainbow batt, the Spunky Electic merino/angora in Juniper, and another skein of BFL/alpaca to add to the growing pile.

Whole lot’a spinnin’ going on

It won’t be long before I’m ready to start the plying marathon. The rainbow singles will get Navajo-plied to preserve the color progression, the green merino/angora will become a 2-ply yarn and the brown is some BFL/alpaca that will be a 3-ply yarn. I’m nearly done with the third bobbin of that and then it will be time to start plying.

Spin spin spin

I have finished spinning singles from the rainbow batt but I’m planning to fill up three bobbins worth of BFL/alpaca before I ply so I can make the most of the switch to the plying head and be a little more efficient. I still have the green merino/angora waiting to be plied as well.

Somewhere over the rainbow

013 017

Once the Rossling socks were done I was ready to get back to some spinning. The merino/angora roving in green is all spun up and waiting on bobbins to be plied. I thought I’d spin up the rainbow batt as well before I get out the plying head for the wheel. I stripped the batt into colors and made little balls of strips in order to try and preserve the color progression. I’ll Navajo-ply the singles when they are done.

Felis catus

After a few weeks in which I didn’t have much time to spin, I came back to the merino angora blend and suddenly it’s much easier to work with. I find that often happens when I take a break. I’m spinning it fairly fine so it’ll still take awhile but it’s going along significantly faster than it was before the break. Of course, I had plenty of supervision and distraction as always.

New Hampshire Sheep and Wool

Pumpkin, Plum, Shale and Dora 014 018

My pictures are a little sketchy of the festival this year. I was able to go with Mom and I was more engaged with showing her around and learning my way around the new location than taking pictures. I was sad to miss out on Miss Tarragon’s fleece this year. She had weak spots and was too full of VM to be useful to a handspinner. I did pick up Pumpkin’s twin, Plum (well the fleeces thereof) which are both lovely cormo fleeces. Shale, a BFL, was only a pound this year so I grabbed Dora’s BFL fleece to go along with. I’ll be boxing those up and mailing them off to Spinderella’s Creations very soon.
