Weekly Photo Challenge: Variations on a Theme…

The prompt: use your camera to discover the endless variety that one thing can contain. It can be a single photo featuring some visual play on repetition and variation. You could opt for a series of shots showing the same place, person, or object in slightly different light (literally or figuratively, as the case may be).

Anyone who knows me, or reads my blog, knows that the Bandstand in Ocean Park in the town of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard is one of my favorite places, and one that I have taken many, many pictures of.  I had no trouble this week coming up with a theme for variation.  I hope you enjoy.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Experimental…

When I think of experimental I think back to my visit a few years ago to the Thomas Edison Historical Park in West Orange, New Jersey.

This is the chem lab..in 1887 this was one of the best equipped chemical labs in the world. Within its walls, Thomas Edison and his chemists experimented on everything from phonograph records to rubber.  “Grand science, chemistry,” Edison once said, “I like it best of all the sciences.”

October On The Vineyard, Part I …

I was lucky enough to spend 5 glorious days on the Vineyard with my daughter Deb and our friend and honorary family member, Dawn.   We packed a lot into the days we were there including meeting a new step-cousin and visiting with a dear friend as well.

In this first post let’s visit the

Hope you enjoyed this autumn walk through the Campground.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Layered…

Share a layered image of your own. The topic is wide open, as long as you focus on the interplay of depth, density, and texture, you can keep your interpretation as literal or as figurative as you wish.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Structure…

I tend to like abandoned structures and also stone walls,  in looking through my photographs I came across not actual stone walls but the stone wall ruins of an abandoned woolen mill in Dingman’s Ferry, PA.

Around 1826 Joseph Brooks, a Welshman who had immigrated to Philadelphia built a woolen mill of stone, 3 1/2 stories high in Dingmans Ferry.  He employed about 80 workers.

His sheep however, were devoured by wolves or died from eating poisonous laurel.  Supplies, operatives and materials such as expensive raw wool, had to be brought in from Philadelphia and the finished products shipped back to Philadelphia by wagons, a trip which took 10 days.  Brooks died in 1832 and the mill was abandoned.  Here are my pictures of the ruins of the mill.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Shiny…

What is guaranteed to distract you? What is your “Ooh, shiny!”?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I didn’t know what to do for ‘Shiny’ and then today my daughter and I took a ride to Jersey City, NJ to have coffee and enjoy the view.  Talk about shiny.  The shiny glass buildings reflecting the sky and other buildings, definitely shiny.
