Lens-Artists Challenge #164 – Looking Up/Down…

Another fun challenge.

I think one of my favorite photos for ‘up’ is of my friend during a tour at the Breakers mansion in Newport, RI.

Among some other choices for ‘up’ are the Chrysler building, the Empire State building and the statue of Atlas at Rockefeller Center in NYC.

The choices for ‘down’ are the Great Falls in Paterson NJ, the Walkway Over the Hudson in NY, view from High Point State Park in NJ towards NY, park stairs, Newport mansion stairs, view from Gay Head lighthouse (on MV) looking down on the cliffs.

Photo A Day Challenge: Start With ‘Z’…

For ‘Z’ I’ve chosen the Tappan ZEE Bridge in New York, which is named for the Native American tribe called the ‘Tappan’ and ZEE is the Dutch word for ‘sea.’

Being that the prompt for Jan 12th is ‘Z’ and the bridge was to be demolished on that date I thought it was a perfect choice. However, demolition of the east span of the old Tappan ZEE bridge with explosives has been postponed until Tuesday, January 15th due to high winds.

According to the Department of Environmental Conservation:

‘The Hudson estuary stretches 153 miles from Troy to New York Harbor, nearly half the river’s 315 mile course between Lake Tear of the Clouds in the Adirondacks and the Battery at the tip of Manhattan. The estuary feels the ocean’s tidal pulse all the way to Troy. Push a stick into the beach at the water’s edge, or note the water’s height on a piling or rock. Check back in 20 minutes. Is the water level the same? The estuary usually has two high and two low tides in twenty-four hours. With this rise and fall come changes in the direction of flow. In general, a rising tide is accompanied by a flood current flowing north towards Troy, a falling tide by an ebb current flowing seaward.’  You can read entire article by CLICKING HERE https://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/4923.html
